Special Notes: (5-25-2009)

These recordings of the Sonus Paradisi Caen/Cavaillé-Coll organ are recorded live with microphones in my organ room.

There is quite a bit of “room noise.” The organ samples are very quite themselves, especially when running in 24-bit resolution, as they are here. The hiss heard is from a couple of sources in the room. First, there is the small fan that is needed to cool the four MOTU audio interfaces, which can run very hot otherwise. Then there is the Mac Pro computer which adds a small bit of noise, too. It is located just a few feet from the microphones. (A re-arrangement of the whole room would be wise, but would involve way too much effort at present.) There can also be some hiss-like noise contributed by the blower from the furnace/air-conditioner. I shut this down when I remember to, and try not to record on really hot days. (As Jiri Zurek put it, all of this can be thought of as blower noise--- so long as we understand it is not part of his excellent sample set.)

Then, there is the noise I make when I play at the old 900B Rodgers console. It does a fine job with HW but it is over 25 years old. The felt under the keys and pedals has worn thin by now and leads to some clattering/clunking noises. I guess we can think of this as part of the tracker sounds of the Caen organ. Note: to save on memory in the computer and on polyphony, I have not loaded the tracker noises that come with the set.

There may be noise contributed by the two pendulum clocks, one with bell chimes. I usually remember to stop them before recording.
